Perizaad Zorabian''s given herself tillDecember to make it in Bollywood. Or else, it''s back to the familybusiness(##include msid=43376741,type=11 ##)Her deadline isDecember 2004. "I have to sort my life out by the end of the year," PerizaadZorabian sighs dramatically. "If I don''t get decent work, I might as well goback to working 9 to 5." What about acting then? "I can''t give up acting forgood. I love it too much. I''ve done English theatre, so I''ll try my hand atHindi theatre. I''ll take up acting as a hobby."Since Jogger''s Park, which released last year, Perizaad hasn''tsigned a single film. And it''s not for lack of offers. "I am only getting trashyart house films," she laments. "There are a lot of art house films being made.The problem is, everyone thinks that making a hatke Rs 2 crore film is theeasiest thing in the world. But such films don''t have a decent script." Whatabout mainstream Hindi films? "It''s the same story. Only the second rung ofproducers and directors seems to thinking of me. Now that I''m trying to make itin commercial films, I only want to work with the best. Whatever I do has to bereally good or it''s not worth it."
Between the Subhash Ghaiproduction and now, Perizaad has wrapped up two films — Morning Raga andDevaki. "The first one is a Mahesh Dattani film, which should release in acouple of months. Devaki''s still in post-production." When she wasn''t shooting,Perizaad was on a high with a couple of award nominations for her performance inJogger''s Park. "It feels damn, man. After you work so hard at making a movie,being nominated with Preity Zinta and Urmila Matondkar for your first Hindi filmis a high."On a break "because a film didn''t take off," Perizaad''swondering what to do with her time. "I am a workaholic. I can''t handle loads offree time." After getting back from an award function in the US, she helped herfather start a cafe. For those who don''t know Perizaad''s family owns a poultrybusiness, where she worked before acting. Is this her first step towards gettingback to business? "Not really. I still have loads of time before I decide whatI''m gonna do. Also, dad won''t want me to take the easy road. The film industryis a much bigger challenge."karishma.upadhyay@timesgroup.com
